Sedation Dentistry

Sedation dentistry may be beneficial for the following children:
1) Very young age
2) Highly apprehensive
3) Extensive dental needs
4) Special needs

Castle Rock Kids’ Dentistry offers the following types of sedation for your child:

Nitrous Oxide/Oxygen
Nitrous Oxide, also known as laughing gas, is often used in dentistry to help relax children during dental treatment.  It is administered through a small breathing mask which is placed on the child’s nose.  The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) recognizes this technique as a safe and effective way to reduce anxiety and enhance communication between the patient and the dental team.

Oral Sedation
Oral Sedation is beneficial for children who are anxious and/or have extensive dental needs.  There are a variety of medications that can be used for sedating children.  The main objective of these medications is to calm the child and reduce unnecessary movement to allow dental treatment to be completed in the safest and best possible manner.  Occasionally, these medications relax children enough where they fall asleep on their own during treatment.

Hospital Dentistry
Hospital Dentistry, also known as outpatient general anesthesia, is recommended for children that are unable to tolerate treatment in the dental clinic.  A few of the major benefits of treatment in this setting includes completion of treatment in one appointment and significantly decreased emotional stress since the child will have no memory of the dental treatment.  For more information where Dr. Mike and his staff complete this type of treatment, please visit Children’s Hospital Colorado.
